TechLeaders: Strategic Persuasion and Change Leadership

June 3, 2008 - June 4, 2008

This workshop is designed to provide technical women with skills to succeed in accomplishing their goals in negotiations and meetings as well with the capacity to use these skills to effect organizational change.

In the first half of the workshop, participants will be introduced to techniques that people in the theater and in leadership training understand about how to be an effective communicator. They will learn how to articulate a clear purpose, land their message, be heard, enhance personal presence, depersonalize attacks, and manage hot moments.

The second half of the workshop will increase the capabilities of technical women to effect organizational change. Participants will experience new vocal presence, learn to differentiate types of challenges, understand how roles determine strategies, and identify the pressures behind the resistance to change. Participants will leave with new strategies for successfully leading change in their institution or organization. Finally, the workshop will extend your network and deepen your relationships with other women in the technical community.

Confirmed Keynote Speaker:

Cathy Lasser, Vice President, Industry Solutions and Emerging Business, IBM Research

Workshop Facilitators:

  • Nancy Houfek
  • Dr. Lee Warren
  • Who Should Attend:

Entry to Mid-level technical women who are individual contributors and/or managers in industry. Attendees have established their credibility in their working group or department, and seek to expand their scope of influence.
