Saturday March 28 2009
8:30
- 9:30 pm wherever you live!
Our
involvement sends a power
global message
that we care enough about
climate change to take
action.
In
2007,
2,200,000
people took part in the
world's first
Earth
Hour
in Sydney Australia.
Just one year later,
50,000,000
people
in
370
cities and towns in more
than
35
countries switched off their
lights for
Earth
Hour.
Earth
Hour
2009's
goal is to reach more than
1,000,000,000
in
1000
cities around the
world. Communities,
business and governments are
invited to switch off
their lights from
8:30-9:30
pm on
Saturday March 28.
It’s as simple as a flick of the
switch.
A
2007campaign to get
Sydney (Australia) residents to
turn their lights off is
becoming one of the world’s
biggest climate change
initiatives. From
8:30 -
9:30 pm on March 28, 2009,
people across the world will
turn their lights for one hour –
Earth Hour.
Earth Hour
2009
is a global call to action to
every individual, every business
and every community. A call to
stand up, to take responsibility
and to get involved in working
towards a sustainable future.
Iconic buildings and landmarks
from Europe to The Americas will
stand in darkness. People across
the world will turn off their
lights and join together in
creating the vital conversation
about the future of our precious
planet.
Earth Hour.
started in
2007 in Sydney, Australia
with 2.2
million homes and
businesses turning their lights
off for one hour. By
2008,
Earth Hour
had become a
global sustainability movement
with nearly
50,000,000
people from
35 countries
participating. Global landmarks
such as the Golden Gate Bridge,
Rome’s Colosseum and the Coca
Cola billboard in Times Square
stood in darkness as symbols of
hope for this increasingly
urgent cause.
The numbers
of EARTH
HOUR 2009 participants
keeps growing as people realize
how such a simple act can result
in profound changes.
Earth Hour
is a message of hope and a
message of action. Everyone can
make a difference.
