Twitter can be useful, especially if you need to know something happening in real time - like right now.

I don't have a lot of time and can't follow everyone so I usually restrict myself to following only those who are smart, serious, and don't waste my time sending junk about their stupid moronic boring day to day boring life moments. That is a waste of my time, no matter how smart they are.

These only put people into my lists if I find them worthy. If I believe they are an authority in that area of knowledge.
