Hilton Pond 01-22-08 (Costa Rica #1)

After three truly exciting and productive weeks of hummingbird field
work in Costa Rica and a fourth week making presentations in Washington
DC, we're finally back home in York SC and working our way through our
data and photos.

The 22 January-1 February 2008 installment of "This Week at Hilton
Pond" summarizes our Week One results and includes a ton of photos of
hummers, non-hummingbirds, and other flora and fauna, people and
places. The write-up will probably take a long time to load, so thanks
in advance for your patience; the photo essay is at
<<http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek080122.html>>

There's also a link to a description of how to sign up for NEXT year's
expeditions, plus a tally of one day's worth of Hilton Pond banding
we completed before jetting off to ruby-throat wintering grounds.
We'll summarize Week Two of the Costa Rica work in our next
installment.

NOTE: "This Week at Hilton Pond" is a FREE education outreach
initiative of Hilton Pond Center. Please consider supporting it and
our other non-profit programs with your tax-deductible contribution.
You can send a check by U.S. mail or contribute on-line via PayPal
or the "Network for Good" as outlined within each weekly installment.

Please forward this message to friends who appreciate birds and
nature, and tell them they can get a free reminder for "This Week at
Hilton Pond" by sending a blank E-mail to the address on this e-mail
with SUBSCRIBE in the Subject line. Be sure to have them configure
their spam filters to accept E-mails from this address.

Happy (Tropical) Nature Watching!

New Radar Maps of the Moon
NASA Science News for February 29, 2008
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/29feb_radarmoon.htm?list111411
New high-resolution radar maps of the Moon's south pole reveal a fantastic land with
peaks as high as Mt. McKinley and crater floors four times deeper than the Grand Canyon.
NASA has used the data to create a dramatic VR movie of a moon landing from the point of view of an astronaut.
