A woman in White Plains, N.Y., had thousands of electronic gadgets stolen from her apartment. When the burglar turned on the stolen Macintosh laptop, the woman jumped onto another computer and remotely turned on the video camera, snapped a photo and turned it over to police — who arrested two men.

Powerset is gonna get Google but Good! On Monday, a story on Powerset launched a new semantic search engine that allows users to input natural language queries to find items. So far, Powerset simply indexes Wikipedia, but the speculation is that the site may branch out to the Web at large.

National Indian Education Study Part I The National Indian Education Study (NIES) is a two-part study designed to describe the condition of education for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students in the United States. The first part, providing in-depth information on the academic performance of fourth- and eighth-grade AI/AN students on the 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in mathematics and reading, will be released May 14. The results will be available online at http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard on the day of release.
