It is clear that users are not reading online in the traditional sense; indeed there are signs that new forms of “reading” are emerging as users “power browse” horizontally through titles, contents pages and abstracts going for quick wins. It almost seems that they go online to avoid reading in the traditional sense.

What a bunch of lies. The poor phone companies claimed massive internet congestion because of "internet telephony" --- it was just a ruse to charge VOIP companies more money or block them. Today's let's charge by the byte is just another iteration of the problem -- they don't want any video that they can't control and get paid for.

"Michelle answered the question by going to Harvard," Ogletree said. "And she came with no ambiguity about her race or gender. She would navigate corporate America, but she would never forget her father's values and where she came from."

According to Reuters, "the energy package would revoke $17 billion in tax breaks extended to big oil companies like Exxon Mobil Corp and slap a 25 percent windfall profits tax on firms that don't invest in new energy sources." Oil producers gave an average of $134,821 to each of the 43 senators that voted no and an average of $37,373 to each of the 51 senators that voted yes. This is why we need the political reforms pushed by Senator Obama, and opposed by Senator McCain.

I am writing to let you know that as of August 31, 2008, Microsoft will change the level of support to be offered for music purchased directly from MSN Music prior to November 14, 2006. As of August 31, 2008, we will no longer be able to support the retrieval of license keys for the songs you purchased from MSN Music or the authorization of additional computers. License keys already obtained as of August 31, 2008 will continue to allow you to listen to songs on all the computers that you previously authorized for service. We wanted to send out this notification well in advance to remind you to backup your music and to provide you sufficient time to confirm license keys for the songs you've purchased from MSN Music.

So we get to this question: how should the public react to bit-moving providers who gerrymander the service offering to the benefit of their Media Masters? If there were any real competitive alternatives, they could vote with their feet. without that alternative, however, are they simply at the mercy of the media giants to bend everything to their will?
